Welcome to the Pickleball Group
u3a Pickleball
Pickleball is a paddle sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is among the fastest growing sports in the world.
Pickleball can be played as singles or doubles, and enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. The rules often seem a bit strange at first, but after a few games things (well, most of them) seem to make sense. There will usually be someone on hand to help give some tips, and whatever level you play, it’s usually a lot of fun!
Indeed, the emphasis for our group is fun and widening participation.
To make pickleball available locally within the Coquet valley we currently use facilities, such as village halls, which are adapted for play rather than purpose-built. Play may therefore be on a reduced-size court, with limited boundary areas and equipment stored nearby. For those seeking a more serious or competitive experience, provision is available further afield (eg Willowburn in Alnwick).
Participation is on the acceptance of the limitations of the venues, and safe play within these. We are planning to start on 14th October and sessions will be 2-4pm.
